Rock/Review Chellcy Reitsma - Momento Mori
Chellcy Reitsma is new to the music scene but not to the stage; a true artist in every capacity. Based in Malta, the Dutch-American former dancer-choreographer, originally from California, USA, began her musical journey in 2015 after a multitude of dance injuries forced her to find a new passion. Since her first single release in 2016, she is now a full-time singer-songwriter, visual artist, and poet.
“Momento Mori” by Chellcy Reitsma is a moving and evocative examination of mortality that serves as a devastating reminder of both the transience of life and its beauty. It establishes the thematic framework for the upcoming “Carpe Diem” and is the first segment of a double concept album. When combined, they have the potential to capture the dichotomy of human life: the certainty of death and the pressing need to enjoy life.
“Momento Mori,” whose Latin title means "remember you must die," explores the common realities of failure, regret, and death. But instead of wallowing in hopelessness, the album aims to turn these ideas into a celebration of the frailty and importance of life. From sobering thoughts to cathartic exonerations of life's hardships, each track presents the idea via a different lens.
“Momento Mori's” musical style is as varied as its subjects, fusing rock, folk, and lyrical melodies. Complementing Chellcy Reitsma's expressive voice are complex compositions that inspire reflection and determination. A musical reflection on the human predicament, standout tracks reverberate with ethereal beauty.
This album is a philosophical journey more than just a collection of songs, encouraging listeners to live life to the fullest and without regret while confronting the certainty of death. “Momento Mori” establishes the framework for an engaging storyline in “Carpe Diem,” which is scheduled for publication in 2025. This guarantees that Chellcy Reitsma's artistic creations will have a profound effect on individuals who accept its message.
