Pop/Review NMTL - Sweet Remy Jewel

NMTL is the pseudonym for the Swedish songwriter and producer Henrik Hjort, with a primary focus on pop, rock, and dance music. With a motto like “Specialization is for insects”, his inspiration comes from a broad spectrum of artists like Apoptygma Berzerk, Crowded House, Oscar Danielsson, ELO, I Am Kloot, Kenny Loggins, The Pineapple Thief, and The The. Since the late 80’s he has been involved in a multitude of projects with other artists, songwriters, and producers.

“Sweet Remy Jewel” by NMTL, a collaborative production between NMTL’s Henrik Hjort and the lyricist Elliot Håkansson, creates a distinctive musical and lyrical storyline. The song talks about a cheerful boy who has a thing for nerdy stuff. Although his zeal and preferences are different from what is expected in a fellow student, they have been driven to the periphery of the entire society by him.

Elisa Kramer, a German artist brings the song’s lyrics into reality with an extraordinary lead vocal. Her voice lends color and poignancy to the persona’s tale and strikes a chord with the listener as the persona experienced solitude and indifference

Sweet Remy Jewel’s video is actually an example of state-of-the art creativity where mixed artificial intelligence techniques are presented. The song’s story is further enhanced by this video through depicting the movement as well as mood of the character involved.

All in all, “Sweet Remy Jewel” is an extraordinary and multi-dimensional music journey. The sad story of a hyperactive boy whose love for arts led to exclusion is shown through lyrical narration, emotional singing and modern images. The collaboration between NMTL, Elliot Håkansson and Elyz makes music which stays in the mind of whoever hears it. Indeed, the song and its music video are evidence that even complicated stories and emotional meanings could be communicated through art and technology in today’s world.
