Pop/Review Marika Lejon - Forbidden Love

Marika Lejon is a Norwegian artist, songwriter and producer born in Stavanger. She grew up in Søgne — now lives in Langhus with her husband and two daughters. She is also known as a feminist, media scientist, digital marketer, jewelery artist, blogger, nutritionist and chairman of Ski Art Association. In the year 2000, Lejon was named best vocalist in the NM in Rock. She has also participated in Kjempesjansen on NRK where she won a cash prize to produce her first record.

The heartfelt and moving song "Forbidden Love," Marika Lejon's most recent single, explores the core of social and individual obstacles to love. The song tackles the hard truth that being homosexual is still illegal in many areas of the world and was inspired by the devastating terror assault on the London Pub in Oslo. "Forbidden Love," on the other hand, goes beyond this particular problem and captures the universal struggle of two people in love who are held apart by different social pressures.

The song has a particular and captivating character that is enhanced by Lejon's unique singing style, which combines a hauntingly lovely melody with emotional intensity. Her delivery, which captures the anguish and desire of individuals who encounter forbidden love, is both strong and tender. Chris Abram wrote the lyrics, which are quite relevant and poignant. The song, which was inspired by the attack in Oslo and the larger background of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar—where LGBTQ+ rights were particularly criticized—talks about the continuous fight for equality and acceptance.

Thematically, "Forbidden Love" is a criticism on the ways in which walls between lovers might be impenetrable due to war, religion, gender, nationality, skin color, and class. Current events throughout the world emphasize the song's relevancy by showing how war and division still divide people. Lejon's poignant performance helps the audience feel the weight of these divisions and compels them to consider how arbitrary they are.

Lejon's vocals take center stage thanks to the song's dramatic yet simple musical arrangement. The production strikes the ideal balance between the lyrical substance and the musical composition, enhancing the track's emotional depth without overpowering the listener.

In a society where boundaries are sometimes drawn arbitrarily, "Forbidden Love" is a cry for empathy and understanding rather than merely a song about separation. A song written by Lejon and Abram speaks to the LGBTQ+ community as well as to everyone who has ever had obstacles in their relationship. This song serves as a tribute to the enduring power of love and the ability of the human spirit to rise above oppressive powers.
